MANSFIELD — Not everyone will be voting in the May 7 primary, according to the Richland County Board of Elections.
“There seems to be some confusion among voters concerning the fact that only 32 of Richland County’s 83 precincts are open (May 7),” Board of Elections Director Paulette Hankins said. “The simple reason is that there is nothing to vote on in the other precincts. No opposition for any partisan candidates and no issues were filed for any of the other sub-divisions.”
She said only the City of Mansfield has opposed candidates in the primary on the Democratic side, as well as a City of Mansfield tax issue on the ballot. Cass Township, Plymouth Township, Jackson Township and the Village of Plymouth Village all have a tax levy on their ballot only.
“No other city, village, or township has any opposed candidates or issues. This is not unusual for an ‘off-year’ election, i.e. an election with no state or federal candidates,” Hankins said. “Voters in the City of Mansfield have a choice of requesting either a Democratic ballot or an issues-only ballot. Republican candidates were nominated on through to the general election in November since they had no opposition in the primary.”
The following is a complete list of the polling places which will be open. Some polling places such as Berean Baptist Church have multiple precincts, and not all the precincts who normally vote there will be open.
For a full county-wide election, voters in Man 1-B, Man 1-E, Man 1-F, Wash-B and Wash-F, vote at Berean. For the May 7 election, Berean will be open for voting in precincts Man 1-B, 1-E and 1-F, only. Wash-B and Wash-F precincts will not be open since there is nothing on Washington Township’s ballot.

Early voting is underway at the Board of Elections office. For the remainder of this week, residents can vote from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on each weekday.
From April 29 to May 3, residents can vote weekdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Voting can be done on Saturday, May 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Votes can be cast on Sunday, May 5, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
On Monday, May 6, voting can be done from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
