ONTARIO — The repaving of Lexington-Springmill Road could begin anytime now, according to Ontario’s service safety director Jeff Wilson.

Last week the city issued a ‘notice to proceed’ to Kokosing Construction Company for the project that will repave Lexington-Springmill Road from the Buckeye Village Apartments to its intersection with Park Avenue.

“We didn’t want to hold them up,” Wilson said.

It’s his understanding that the $1.569 million project will begin with curb repairs and installation of catch basins. Then the surface of the road will likely be removed and repaved in sections, starting in June.

Kokosing informed Wilson that most repaving will be done at night, so there will be temporary markings on the street during the day.

“We’ll still have lanes. We’ll still have turns as they’re identified right now. It should be a pretty seamless project,” Wilson said.

The project should be complete no later than Aug. 30.

Sidewalks

During its Wednesday night street committee meeting, members of Ontario City Council also discussed adding a sidewalk along Shelby-Ontario Road near its intersection with Pearl Street.

The committee motioned for Mayor Randy Hutchinson and Wilson to proceed by seeking engineer’s drawings for the sidewalk extension.

Hutchinson also said he’d look into possible financing options through the Richland County Regional Planning Commission.

The committee was informed that the sidewalk was requested by citizens due to the number of students who walk down the road towards Besta Fasta Pizza and The Cove Coffee Shop.
