GREENWOOD, Ind. – Mansfield Madison graduate Shelbi Keller, a senior at Mount Vernon Nazarene University, worked hard both on the courts and in the classroom in 2017-2018, as she earned Google Cloud Academic All-District honors for women’s tennis.
The team is voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America, or CoSIDA. CoSIDA began the distinguished Academic All-America program in 1952, and since then, has honored thousands of deserving student-athletes from numerous sports across all divisions.
The award is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom and on the field or court of play. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have reached sophomore status academically with one full year at the current institution of enrollment and must have participated in over half of the team’s competitions during the current season.
Keller was able to earn an impressive grade point average (GPA) of 3.89 while studying Early Childhood Education. On the courts, the Mansfield, Ohio native and graduate of Madison High School went 7-10 in singles play (mostly at No. 5 singles) and 7-7 in doubles play (7-5 at No. 3 doubles) for the newly reinstituted MVNU Women’s Tennis program under coach Daniel Doan.
Keller joins Anna and Sarah Boue’ of MVNU Softball and Sam Romine of MVNU Men’s Golf as Spring 2018 Cougar student-athletes to be selected for the distinction. More may still be to come with the cross country and track & field programs, and the All-America team for the at-large sports will be announced later in June.
