PLYMOUTH — Joanne Root will never be forgotten in Plymouth.
The Plymouth Area Historical Society has dedicated its library to one of its passed trustees.
When she died on May 22, 2016, the museum had a sizable memorial money collected, Douglas Dickson, a founding trustee said.
With that money, the historical society revamped the library, adding new coats of paint, LED lightbulbs, a new dark-wood bookshelf and shampoo for the carpet.
“This building was built in 1986,” Dickson said. “This part was destroyed in a fire. We had a clothing store in here and an important hardware store. When we bought this, we did not have money (to fix it up.)”
Root, who died before her 92nd birthday, worked the gift shop and served as secretary for the museum.
“She was very sweet, very loving,” Dickson said. “She was always wanting to get things done.”
The library’s dedication, he said, will help those working and volunteering to get things done in an efficient fashion.
“This motivates people to do more,” he said. “She was always wanting to improve. She had a weak heart, but she was very sharp.”
