ASHLAND — An Ashland man was arrested after he arrived at the local Post Office Tuesday to receive a package containing an illegal controlled substance, according to a press release issued by Ashland Police chief David T. Marcelli.
Ashland Police Detectives, as part of the METRICH Enforcement unit, arrested John Duzan, 50 of Ashland, at the Ashland Post Office, when he arrived to pick up a package. This package had been previously intercepted by federal authorities, Marcelli stated.
Working with Homeland Security and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, APD Detectives, with assistance from a Detective of the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Marcelli said they made contact with Duzan when he arrived to claim the package.
On Feb. 26, U.S. Customs and Border Protection flagged a package destined for Duzan in Ashland that originated from China. The Department of Homeland Security had the contents tested and found them to be Substituted Cathinone, a schedule 1 controlled substance. Homeland Security notified the Ashland Police Division about the discovery.
Duzan is being held in the Ashland County Jail. The case is going to be reviewed by the Ashland County Prosecutor’s Office.
