ASHLAND — The Ashland University (AU) men’s basketball program wants to establish itself as one of the premier institutions in Division II.

With that in mind the team is looking for assistance to get to the next level. AU recently created the “212 Club” as a means of getting help in the areas of recruiting, travel, equipment and general marketing for the team.

The 212 Club, pronounced, two-one-two, refers to the temperature at which water goes from existing in a liquid state to that of steam.

“Just one degree extra, makes all the difference,” said AU men’s basketball head coach John Ellenwood.

That has been a motivational theme for the team this year, as with a little extra effort you go from warm water to having the ability to power locomotives and creating the force behind an industrial revolution.

In the case of the 212 Club, the missing degree is that extra level of support from fans, alumni and people close to the community and program.

“As a part of a great town like Ashland, we feel it is our duty to give back to the community that supports our efforts on and off the court,” said graduate assistant men’s basketball coach Max Pendery.

The 212 Club memberships are open to anyone that wants to help the program and there are different annual levels based on your contribution.

Every membership level includes a team picture and monthly email newsletter, and as you go up, from “varsity” and “starter” to “national championship,” the benefits increase.

“The men’s basketball program and 212° Club has been involved with Special Olympics clinics, Tuffy’s trick-or- treat, shop with a cop, Mohican Youth Academy and more over the last year to support the local area and those in need,” said Pendery.

The online membership form and different levels of the club can be found here. All donations and contributions surrounding the club are tax deductible.
