MANSFIELD — Old Man Winter apparently likes it around here, a lot.
The freezing weather and more snow are on the horizon this evening, according to various sources.
The AccuWeather forecast lists a low of 17 degrees tonight with 2-4 inches of snow expected after midnight through Wednesday morning. The high is expected to reach 26 degrees on Wednesday.
The Ohio Department of Transportation issued a press release warning drivers that Wednesday morning’s commute could be hazardous.
“Between 6 a.m. and noon is the estimated time frame that District 3 will be impacted most with snowfall,” the release stated. “The snow system is expected to be relatively quick, dropping a lot of snow in a short period of time all across Ohio.”
The National Weather Service lists an 80-percent chance of snow, but says it will begin after 3 a.m. Wednesday night is expected to get much colder, with a low around 8 and a wind-chill dipping below zero to minus-1.
Warmer weather is not expected to return until this weekend. Warmer is a relative term, with a high of 32 expected on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. There is a chance of snow each day, although barely accumulating an inch if it snows at all on those days.
In response, Knox County has already issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 4 a.m. Wednesday until 4 p.m. Wednesday.
“Our garages are fully staffed and are ready to take on this winter storm,” ODOT stated. “Crews will work 12-hour shifts, around the clock until the storm has ended and the roads are clear.
“Our men and women will monitor all of our roadways for potential re-freezes, especially leading into Wednesday night and Thursday morning. ODOT crews work tirelessly to ensure Ohioans can travel safely to and from their destinations. Please be mindful of them out of the roadway and give them plenty of room to do their job.”
