MANSFIELD — Visitors to the Richland Mall on Friday, Feb. 23 will find a favorite board game in the middle of the mall’s court. However, instead of the standard 20 inches, the board will measure 20 feet on all sides.

The game, a local version of Monopoly retitled RICHLANDOPOLY and presented by Haring Realty, will rename the entire board game via sponsored properties in a fundraiser to benefit United Way of Richland County during its annual Dash to the Goal event.

On Feb. 23, eight area businesses and nonprofits will compete for the rights to these properties using custom, oversized team tokens, oversized playing pieces, props and currency featuring local faces.

The game sold out during a two-week “soft launch” to the community.

“Our team went out to the community for two weeks in a ‘soft launch’ and we were blown away with the response,” said David Yoder, marketing director for Haring Realty. “It’s another example of this community’s relentless generosity.”

The game will begin at 9 a.m. A large 20×20 board will fill the area by Macy’s Department Store and on it, 8 teams will compete for the title of RICHLANDOPOLY Champion. Haring Realty will underwrite the production costs of the game and the Richland Mall will be host to the new fundraiser.

“I was excited and appreciative that Haring Realty wanted to take this on and make this their own,” said United Way of Richland County Director Dan Varn, “When you have events like this, it not only raises funds but it generates conversation about ‘What is United Way?’”

Haring Realty would like the event to become an annual celebration of all things local and further the building of the local community.

“I want to thank David Yoder and Lori Holden-Sjostedt for taking the lead on this event,” Broker Peter Haring said. “As much as anything, I really enjoyed seeing our team come together to make this go from an idea to a reality in a short time.

“It’s going to be a fun and exciting event.”

Among the teams participating are: Hamilton Insurance, Richland Bank, Southern Title, Warren Rupp, Schmidt Security, Haring Realty and MRPS.
