When it comes to supporting local businesses over the holiday season, most people automatically think of retail. But Kingwood Center Gardens, a 201c(3), not-for-profit historical estate and botanical garden, has plenty to offer during the month of December.
As many people in the area already know, Kingwood features 47 acres of pristine beauty and is open seven days a week for the public to enjoy. If you have family or friends in town for the holidays, taking them to Kingwood between November 25 and December 30 is a must.
Thursdays through Sundays from 2-8 pm, “Christmas at Kingwood” will be on display. The magical holiday display features spectacular Christmas trees in every room of the house, thousands of lights on the grounds, nightly campfires, and the famous Walk of Trees. Additionally, the garden shop and greenhouse will be open for visitors to enjoy cookies, hot chocolate, and shop for beautiful poinsettias.
Kingwood Center Gardens opened in 1953 as a public garden based on the death wishes of Charles Kelley King, a local businessman who owned the property. Since 1953, Kingwood has remained true to its mission of remaining a public garden for all to enjoy. The only major changes it has allowed are the community events, such as the Great Pumpkin Glow, as well as weddings and other private events.
Locals that are fascinated with horticulture can find the most beautiful plants at Kingwood, as well as a variety of unusual gifts. Holly Williams, Visitors Services Manager, is passionate about preserving the tradition of Kingwood Center:
“The key for Kingwood is to stay true to its mission of creating beautiful gardens for enjoyment, education, and inspiration,” she said.
When you decide to support small businesses this holiday season, don’t forget about Kingwood Center Gardens.
