MANSFIELD — The city-owned parking lot across from the Richland Carrousel Park will be repaved.

City council approved legislation authorizing the safety-service director to advertise for bids and enter into a contract for resurfacing the downtown parking lot located along East Fourth Street, between Main and Diamond streets, at its meeting Tuesday.

The lot consists of 188 parking spots.

As depicted by the image below, only the blue hatched portion will be repaved.

“The parking lot has not been paved in quite some time,” said City Engineer Bob Bianchi. “It’s in disrepair and needs to be paved so we don’t have further disrepair and consequently further costs to repair the pavement.”

The project is estimated to cost $81,000.

“We do have these funds right now in the maintenance fund,” Bianchi said. “We’re not asking for any unappropriated general fund money.”

The project will take about four days to complete. Milling and paving will take place during the night or on a Sunday, Bianchi said.

“What we’re trying to do is minimize any disruption to the public in downtown,” Bianchi said.

The project is said to be completed by the end of August or beginning of September.
