ONTARIO — When Andrew Getz from Fun Center Pools & Spas listened to a voicemail from a HGTV representative, he thought it might be a scam.
Fun Center Pools & Spas, 2172 W 4th St., Ontario, will be included in an episode of the Home and Garden TV’s new series “Lakefront Bargain Hunt Renovation,” which will air Saturday, May 6 at 9 p.m.
“At first I didn’t believe it,” Getz said. “I went online and found their LinkedIn profiles and their website, checked everything out to make sure it was legitimate.”
It was.
The series, which premiered Saturday, April 15, follows the journeys of families who purchase lakeside homes in hopes of turning them into vacation getaways. The upcoming episode with a local connection features a family who renovated their lakefront home in Apple Valley last summer and fall.
Getz recalls that the couple and camera crews came to Fun Center Pools & Spas in early fall, either September or October. They wanted a hot tub.
“Once we started talking, we found out that the hot tub was really what they wanted,” he said. “They didn’t want a pool. They already had a lake there for their other water activity.”
The couple picked out the hot tub before even coming to Mansfield, following a series of phone calls. They chose a high-end option from Hot Springs.
“They wanted something that could fit all of them (total of 7), but also something that wasn’t just a big box of water,” Getz said. “They wanted something they could relax in, give them a great massage … Based on their needs, we found the perfect hot tub for them.”
Although the hot tub was chosen in advance, they still visited the store for filming purposes.
“We were one of the last things to go in,” he said. “By the time we got there, the inside of the house was done; the landscaping outside was done.
“So we had to take our literally biggest, heaviest hot tub and drop it into a hole.”
