MANSFIELD – The North Central State College Foundation has named two honorees to the second class Hall of Excellence Awards which will be held Wednesday, April 19 at the Kehoe Center in Shelby.

The Hall of Excellence Class of 2017

Bob Turner, owner of Turner Funeral Home in Shelby, Ohio is the first inductee.

Bob and his wife Catherine moved back to Shelby in the early 1980s to take over the Dye-Hall funeral home. They lived and worked at the home, lovingly restoring the interior rooms one-by- one.

Turner has provided far-reaching support throughout the community, and has mentored countless young people as they prepared to step out into the world.

Today, the Turners no longer live at the home, and have expanded to serve the needs of the families who entrust their loved ones to their care.

David Williamson, a resident of Plymouth, began his career in the radio business, and moved back to the Shelby area to help establish WSWR, Shelby-Willard Radio.

He helped lead the Shelby Chamber of Commerce to a new level of support and professionalism, and served as its first Executive Director. Williamson served a nine-county region as the Director of Economic Development for Governors Voinovich and Taft.

He completed his career as the founding director of the Crawford County Education and Economic Development Partnership (CCEEDP), the core group which provided the impetus for the Crawford 20/20 Vision Project, a roadmap to meet the needs of his community in an evolving world.

The Hall of Excellence Awards

In 2016, The North Central State College Foundation updated the Entrepreneurial Hall of Fame to provide the opportunity to recognize a broader range of honorees who have impacted the region through their leadership.

In addition to the induction ceremony, The Hall of Excellence will also feature a keynote speaker, Chris Spielman, a 2 time All-American with The Ohio State Buckeyes, and an 11-year NFL star who played for the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns.

About Chris Spielman

Chris Spielman is an All-Star linebacker from Massillon Ohio. He was a 2-time All American for The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Chris played 11 years in the NFL for the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and the Cleveland Browns.

He represented the Detroit Lions in four Pro Bowls and was named the team’s defensive MVP in 1993 and 1994. Chris was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2009.

He was a College Football analyst with ESPN for 15 years and in 2016 moved to Fox Sports as a NFL Football analyst. He also hosts a new sports radio show, Spielman and Hooley Mornings on iHeart Radio 105.7 The Zone.

Chris continues the fight that he and his late wife Stefanie started together shortly after her first diagnosis of breast cancer. Over the years more the $20 million has been raised for the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research and the Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund.

Chris has four children, and remarried in 2013 to Carrie Yocom, who brought with her two more daughters. He found his biggest opponent to be off the field. Chris’ life has order: Faith, Family and Community – and he lives it daily in that order.
