Arvetta Adkins, 73, of Mansfield, passed away early Monday morning, April 3, 2017, at her home. She was born June 19, 1943, in Ashland, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Virgil and Carrie (Hanners) Griffith.
Arvetta retired as a dietician with Mansfield City Schools after 25 years. She then worked for Mansfield Memorial Homes for six years before going to work at Friendly House. She retired from Friendly House after 25 years and truly treasured her time there.
Children and family were at the very heart of her being and she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In her free time, she indulged in playing Bingo and trying to get that elusive winning lottery ticket.
She is survived by her husband of 55 wonderful years, William Adkins; five children, David Adkins, James (Kim) Adkins, Robert (Pam) Adkins, Anthony (Gretchen) Adkins and Angela (Anthony) Raymondo, all of Mansfield; 10 granchildren, Billy, Danny, Kelly, Megan, Robyn, Scott, Kayla, Kristen, Kyle, and Karly; and thirteen great-grandchildren. Arvetta is also survived by three sisters, Sue (Jack) Elswick, of Mansfield, Betty Elswick and Freida Elswick, both of Ashland, Kentucky; a brother, Leonard Terry Jr., of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Carrie Griffith; two brothers, Virgil Griffith and Paul Griffith; two brothers-in-law, Tom Elswick and Jim Elswick; and a nephew, Tommy Eugene Elswick.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Arvetta’s memory may be made to the Friendly House Mansfield, 380 N. Mulberry St., Mansfield, Ohio, 44902.
