Doris Ann Ernsberger peacefully passed away Thursday March 23, 2017 following a short illness. She was 76.

She was born Nov. 25, 1940 to parents Virgil & Mertie (Brown) Carey in Shelby, Ohio one of 11 children. Her father passed away when she was less than three years old and her mother later remarried Art Conklin and he raised her as his own.

She graduated from Shelby High School and met the love of her life at age 18. A year later she married Robert “Bob” Ernsberger in 1959. Together they raised seven children and shared 52 wonderful years until he passed away in 2011. They are now together again.

Dorie dedicated her life to creating a loving home for her husband and children. She was the ultimate selfless person and never said an unkind word about anyone. Dorie always had a sweet compliment and genuinely liked everyone she met.

She had a very creative side and enjoyed crafting, latch hooking, and crocheting. Dorie had THE BEST sense of humor and her quick wit would keep you on your toes. She had a childlike spirit and enjoyed cartoons — especially Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Dorie’s all-time favorite activity was shopping. She loved to hunt for a good deal in the store, or at auctions and yard sales. Shopping was extra special when she was with family and friends and going out to eat afterwards was the cherry on top.

She is survived by six children Kathy (Sonnie) French, Robert Jr. (Louise) Ernsberger, Jeff (Carrie) Ernsberger, Dave Ernsberger, Shelley Ashcroft, and Brad (Ronda) Ernsberger, all of Mansfield; eight grandchildren Chris Ernsberger (Mychael Pope), Torey Ashcroft, Brooke Ashcroft, Angela (Kyle) Bowen, Jesse Robinson, Michelle Ernsberger, Justin Ernsberger, and Bradley Ernsberger Jr.; seven great-grandchildren Alexis, Autumn, Aubrey, Kymber, Jacob, Hailey, and Adelyn; numerous brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews; special nieces Debra Lawrence, of Mansfield, and Christie Core, of Bellville; and sisters-in-law Marge Bishop, Pat Kane, Penny Turner, and Jean Ernsberger.

In addition to her loving husband Bob, she was preceded in death by her father Virgil Carey, mother Mertie Conklin, and step-father Art Conklin, a son Brian Ernsberger, three infant children, six siblings, and one great-grandchild.

The family will host a memorial service 4 p.m. Tuesday March 28, 2017 at Diamond Hills Baptist Church (647 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, Ohio 44907) officiated by Chaplain Diana.
