Sam S. Siclair, 97, of Galion passed away Sunday evening, March 19, 2017 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 8, 1919 in Galion and was the son of Dominic and Florence (Suratchi) Siclair. On April 18, 1947 he married Kathleen Watts and they enjoyed 69 years of marriage until her passing on May 18, 2016.

Sam was a 1939 graduate of Galion High School and went to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy as a Boatsman 1st class during World War II.

He and his wife owned and operated Galion Canvas from 1957 until 1986 at which time they turned the business over to their son. Sam was a former member of the Galion Elks Lodge 1191 and the American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 both of Galion and was currently a member of the Galion Golden Age Center and the American Civil Liberties Union. He previously served as chairman of the Crawford County Democratic Party and was very active in politics and enjoyed gardening.

Sam is survived by his children Diane Bryant, of Sandusky, Steve (Nancy) Siclair, of Galion, Sherry (Susan Blakley) Siclair, of Atlanta, Georgia, Mary (Steve) Willis, of New Albany, and Tammy (John) Erlsten, of Galion; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and two sisters, Mary Curran, of Galion, and Clara Zara, of Mansfield.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife and three brothers Nick, Tony and Carl Siclair.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Civil Liberties Union or the Galion Golden Age Center in care of the funeral home.
