Roger Allen Monroe, 71, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2017, at his home in Mansfield, Ohio.
He was born to Roger and Edith (Horner) Monroe in Martins Ferry, Ohio, on March 24, 1945.
Roger was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He held various positions throughout his life including sales and construction, but dedicated many years to restaurant and bar management. He was an active member of Amvets Post #26, Order of the Owls, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, V.F.W., and many other clubs and organizations in the area.
Roger was a dedicated Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan and an avid golfer.
Roger was a proud father and grandfather. He is survived by four children and their spouses, Roger and Janet Monroe, of Mt. Vernon, Stacy Monroe, of L,exington, Bill and Mandy Beeman, of Kingston Springs, Tennessee, and John and Jamie Fry, of Mansfield; seven grandchildren, Rachael, Nic, Zach, Alayna, Will, Jersie, and Ember; three sisters and their spouses, Estel and Bill Bommer, of Shadyside, Ohio, Sue Hughes, of Rogersville, Missouri, and Sandy and David Driscoll, of Martins Ferry, Ohio; a brother, Gary Monroe, of Mansfield; and his best friend, Jon “Spider” Mosley, of Shelby.
He is preceded in death by his wife and best friend of 34 years, Marlene (Shetler) Monroe and his parents.
A celebration of life for friends and family will be held Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at Amvets Post #26, West Fourth St., Mansfield. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
