Allan D. Sargel, 81, of Galion passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Ohio Health Mansfield after a recent illness.

Born April 6, 1935 in Galion, he was the son of Forrest and Esther (Weber) Sargel. He enjoyed 57 years together with his wife Sandra (Rosen) Sargel whom he married on July 5, 1959.

Allan was a graduate of Galion High School in 1953 and served three years in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Galion. Allan retired from Peabody Galion in 2000 after a 47-year career and began driving cars for Donley Ford in Galion.

He enjoyed square dancing (where he first met Sandy), camping at area campgrounds, playing cards and reading. Allan liked dogs (especially dachshunds) and his faithful companion was his dog Holly.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Steve (Gretchen) Sargel, of Bucyrus; daughter Michele (Dave) Miller, of Cape Carteret, North Carolina; grandchildren Olivia (Brent) Mitchell, Casey (Derek) Fulk and Joshua (Neth) Sargel; great-grandchildren Adelynn and Emery; sister Evelyn Booth, of Iberia; brothers Richard (Jeanie) Sargel, of Mansfield, and Donald Sargel, of Galion.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by half-brother Forrest Sargel Jr.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833 where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16 with Pastor Mark Bogen officiating. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Crawford County Memory Gardens.

Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Marines Corp and Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crawford County Humane Society or Galion Public Library in care of the funeral home.
