CLEVELAND — Mother Nature’s pendulum is about to swing again.
The area’s unseasonably warm weather is about to give way to far cooler, and more normal temperatures for this time of year.
The National Weather Service in Cleveland is monitoring the potential for severe thunderstorms on Friday evening and early Friday night. Thunderstorms are expected to move into northwest Ohio from the west around 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24.
The thunderstorms will spread eastward overnight ahead of a strong cold front. Strong damaging winds will be the primary threat with these thunderstorms but a few tornadoes will be possible, mainly in northwest Ohio.
A south wind is expected to reach 15 to 17 mph. The weather service estimates the chance of precipitation is 90 percent with new rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
On Saturday, rain and snow showers are possible with a high near 44 and winds in the 15 to 25 mph range, with gusts as high as 39 mph.
Saturday night temperatures will dip near 24 with winds from the west 11 to 17 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.
Sunday the low hovers around the freezing mark with a high near 41.
