Maxine Bowman Leaman

Maxine Bowman Leaman, 96, of Ashland died late Thursday evening, Feb. 23, 2017 at Brethren Care Village following a short illness.

She was born in Loudonville on June 16, 1920 to the late Cleveland H. and Nora I. Teeter Bowman. Maxine spent all of her young life in and around Loudonville, graduating in 1938 from Loudonville High School and working in the Advertising Dept. of The Flxible Co. until her 1940 marriage to C. George Leaman.

This union resulted in one son, G. William “Bill” Leaman, who was killed in an auto accident on March 21, 1958. Maxine continued her employment as a secretary with the Loudonville-Perrysville School system for 15 years.

She and her husband resided in Ashland, spending 25 winters in Florida at Winter Haven following their retirement. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Ashland.

Maxine is survived by many loving and caring nieces and nephews: Donna Kinney, Marjorie Baughman, Jane Stumbaugh, Virginia Simonis, Carol Purdy, Reda Stinemetz, Maxine Weirbiki, Joyce Ferris, and John C. Bowman; as well as her very special ‘adopted’ family, Patricia Mowery, and her daughter: Amy and her husband, Andy Elgin, her sons, Sam, Ben, and Dan Mowery; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. They all gave so much love and care to both Maxine and George which we hope will be returned in good measure with God’s blessings.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of nearly 66 years, C. George Leaman in 2006, one son, Bill Leaman in 1958; one brother, John W. Bowman in 1982, and one sister, Dorothea DeWitt in 2013.

Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. in Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, with Rev. Eric Riesen officiating. Burial will follow in Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral, from 1 to 2 p.m. in the funeral home on Monday.

Memorial contributions may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805. Online condolences may be left for the family by visiting www.Byerly-Lindsey.com.
