A group of 19 Eagles scouts from Richland, Ashland and Crawford counties earned their respective ranks in the Buckeye Council in 2016.

As a result, the scouts were honored at a Jan. 22 ceremony on the campus of Kent State University-Stark County in Canton.

The local scouts who were honored featured 10 from Mansfield, including: Gary Utt III, Caleb Wills, Branden Barber, Justin Lemon, Terry Weaver, Richard Moloney, Timothy Bottorf, Croix Seval, Tyler Rider, and Casey Barker; six from Ashland: Thomas Schlitt, Marquell Gorsuch, Devin McWilliams, Ross Mitchell, Nathaniel Whitmer and Tyler Townsend; two from Lexington: Kent Reese and Zachary Young; and Galion’s Timothy Fernandez.

Eagle Scout and Dinner Chairman Doug Sibila announced this year’s keynote speaker, Ohio’s 65 th Lieutenant Governor, Mary Taylor.

Eagle Scout is the highest advancement rank in Boy Scouting. In 2016, over 50,000 Scouts earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the United States. From 1912 to 2016, more than 2.5 million Boy Scouts earned the Eagle Scout rank.
