In the bustling years following WWII when suddenly there were no restrictions on how much gas you could put in your car, enthusiastic drivers took off around the whole country in a wild binge of vacationing. At that time little motels popped up all over America to accommodate travelers.

One of these motels was on West Fourth Street, which was at that time also known as the Lincoln Highway.

Lincoln Plaza Motel

It was called the Lincoln Plaza Motel, and it became famous for a while in 1954 when its motel register was subpoenaed into evidence for an important murder trial. Allegedly the accused had a girlfriend stashed at the Lincoln Plaza who was motive enough for killing his wife.

It has been 65 years since the motel’s golden era, and at first glance it would appear that the place is long gone. But a closer look reveals the rooms are still there, but obscured from the street by strips of businesses built in the intervening years.
