CRESTLINE — The Crestline girls basketball team claimed victory Thursday night.

It was the first time the Bulldogs have made that proclamation in 693 days.

The Bulldogs (1-10 overall) defeated Mansfield Christian 49-34 Thursday night to end a two-year winless streak.

First-year coach Aaron Bluey said he had seen the Flames play before and that his team followed his gameplan to the letter.

He noted the first half was crucial.

“We knocked down some shots and kept them from making shots,” Bluey said. “We were up by seven or eight (points) and then we hit a three-pointer just before half time. That gave us a lot of momentum.”

Lauryn Tadda, a Crestline freshman, led the team with 22 points.

“She was really aggressive, and shots fell for her,” the coach said. “(Mansfield Christian) played a sagging zone defense and we were able to get them to switch to man to man. Lauryn was able to get to the basket. She played great.”

Mansfield Christian’s leading scorer was Logan Mowry with nine points.

While Bluey said the night was great for the program, he said there is more to come.

“We look to get better; hope to keep building,” he said. “We have two seniors — Denessa Baker and Sarah Toy — who I am so happy they won a game. They have a ton of leadership, and I am so proud they were able to win a game their senior year.

“I’m really proud. This was a great night for our program.”
