BUCYRUS — Mo Ressallat won the ticket for one of the Crawford County Commissioner seats and Doug Weisenauer retained his seat during Tuesday’s general election.
Ressallat, who served from 2000 to 2012 as a commissioner in Crawford County before winning last night, said he was elated to have his job back.
“It’s a great feeling and I just want to say thank you and I appreciate the votes. I’ll do my best to serve this county,” he said Wednesday morning. “I’m ready to go.”
A man of faith, he said he will take one day at a time until his new job starts Jan. 2.
Ressallat defeated his challenger, Jeff Teynor, handily, earning 62.2 percent of the county’s vote. Teynor finished with 6,586 votes to Ressallat’s 10,836.
Weisenauer, the incumbent, beat his opponent, Danial Wirebaugh by a wide margin as well, garnering 68.3 percent to Wirebaugh’s 31.6 percent.
Weisenauer could not immediately be reached for comment.
Julie Wells, republican candidate for County Recorder, garnered 11,072 votes against her democratic challenger, Dawn Schnabel, who earned 6,339 votes.
All tax levies, including Chatfield Township’s .55 mill levy increase, passed smoothly.
All except the Tri-Rivers Joint Vocational School District. The district sought a five-year 1.3 mills levy to benefit Marion, Crawford, Delaware, Hardin, Morrow, Union and Wyandot counties for current operating expenses.
Only 19 voted for the levy — 17 voted against it.
All four liquor options presented to Crawford County passed with at least two-thirds of the votes.
Voter turnout
Crawford County came out in high numbers to the polls on Tuesday. According to the board of elections, 67.6 percent of the county turned out for the vote.
“Those aren’t record numbers,” Crawford County Board of Elections Director Ruth Leuthold said. In 2012’s general election, the county experienced a 71 percent voter turnout, per board of elections records.
The four-percent gap did close, however. Leuthold said the board still has 506 provisionals to count, which would equate to 19,548 voters who cast a ballot for a president in 2016, just one percent shy of 2012’s 19,847.
Provisionals will be counted and certified in Crawford County on Tuesday, Nov. 22, said Leuthold.
