Helen L. Hegarty

Helen L. Hegarty, 86 of Mansfield passed away Sept. 29, 2016 at her home.

Helen was born Dec. 17, 1929 in Vincennes, Indiana, to Robert and Helen Jansen Guiler. She was a member of the Mansfield Women’s Club, Catholic Newcomers, Helen Hayden Charity Club along with many bridge clubs.

Helen also was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Here she volunteered for many events such as their rummage sale, bake sale and was a Monday lunch lady at the school.

Helen loved knitting and traveling, which she continued doing with a group known as The Merry Widows. Her family meant the world to her, and she was even the family Chinese checkers champion.

Helen is survived by her children James (Pamela) Hegarty, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Lisa (Paul) Grabiel, of Fairborn, Ohio, Michael (Rachel) Hegarty, of Seffner, Florida, Thomas (Kim) Hegarty, of Greensboro, North Carolina, Timothy (Billie) Hegarty, of Oxford, Pennsylvania, Joan Hegarty, of Columbus, Anne (David) Finn, of Mansfield; grandchildren Caitlin, Michael (Ben), Thomas (KeeLee), Megan (Cameron), Michael (Stephanie), Geoffrey, Mary, T.J., Allyssa, Ellen, Sarah, Andrew, Christopher, Larry, Brian, Mary; three great-grandchildren; brother Bud (Carolyn) Guiler, of Delavan, Wisconsin; sister-in-law Jerry Hegarty, of Berkley, Michigan; along with many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Jim Hegarty, and brother-in-law Owen Hegarty.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Wednesday, Oct. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a vigil at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Jeremy Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.
