George Ira Bowman, 72, of Ontario, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016.

He was born to Robert and Rosie (Spohn) Bowman on Dec. 24, 1943.

George owned two Sohio Stations in Ontario. Later, he managed Wickes Lumber and was a member of the Ontario Lions Club.

George enjoyed owning and showing Quarter horses. He also enjoyed golfing, riding motorcycles, and was a member of the Honda Goldwing Club. In his younger years, he drag raced at Norwalk and Lakeview. Most of all, George loved his grandchildren, and especially loved to watch them play sports.

George is survived by his wife of 27 years, Peggy (Fagan) Bowman; two daughters, Lori (Rob) Sloboda, of Ontario, and Lesa Allen, of Charlotte, North Carolina; three step-daughters; Stacey Renner, of Ontario, Cindy Renner, of Columbus, and Jodie Renner, of Gulfport, Mississippi; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three brothers, Carl (Beth) Bowman, of Perrysville, Don (Sue) Bowman, of Ashland, Jerry (Nancy) Bowman, of Ringgold, Georgia; a sister, Roberta (Fred) Heeren, of Ashland, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Rosie Bowman and a daughter, Megan.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 18, 2016 from 2 to 4 p.m at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill. Funeral Services will be Monday, Sept. 19, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home officiated by Rev. Peg Welch. Burial will follow at Ontario Cemetery.
