MANSFIELD — Saturday’s Mansfield Pride parade featured floats and newcomers — both old and new.

The parade, founded by the Mansfield Gay Pride Association, began at 11 a.m on Park Avenue West and led into a festival at South Park from noon to 4 p.m. Activities resume Sunday and will feature a Drag Brunch at Roseto Event Venue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Pride parade eclipsed the decade mark Saturday in its 11th year of walking along Park Avenue and 4th Street. The first Mansfield Pride parade took place in July 2015, just a month after the federal legalization of gay marriage. Mansfield Pride has been a mainstay since.

The parade and festival have occurred each June — Pride Month — since its founding.

Parade participants included several mainstays like OhioHealth and Renaissance Performing Arts, local candidates vying for election or re-election and newcomers with ties to America 250 and the Fourth of July.

Supporters cheered from sidewalks as cars, trucks, motorcycles and parade participants on foot marched through the city.
