OLIVESBURG — With a heart of gold and an infectious smile, Walker Ramsay’s story has touched the hearts of many in and beyond the Crestview community.
On May 29, 2016, Walker was taken from his classmates, friends, and family too soon at the age of 17. In the wake of his passing, the Crestview community has come together in mourning and supported the Ramsay family in their time of need.
Walker exhibited market hogs at the Richland County Fair through the Crestview FFA, of which he was an active member. His father, Greg Ramsay, made sure his final project was seen through to the end.
On Wednesday evening of the fair, Walker’s childhood friend, Justin Bond, honored his memory by exhibiting the pig in its market class. On Saturday, August 13, local businesses and individuals came together at the Richland County Junior Fair Livestock Sale to raise money for the Walker Ramsay Memorial Scholarship Fund. Phillips Manufacturing had the final bid at $12,000; breaking the previous record of $2,450.
After they closed the bidding, multiple local businesses, organizations, and individuals donated additional money, classified as an add-on bid. With too many names to list here and the total still climbing, the Crestview community and surrounding Richland County have raised over $55,000 to donate to the Crestview Educational Foundation in Walker Ramsay’s name.
