Gene Paul Love, age 77 of Mansfield died Thursday afternoon August 4, 2016 at his home.
Born April 16, 1939 in Shelby to Jacque & Dana (Stentz) Love, he was a lifelong Shelby resident. A 1958 graduate of Shelby High School, Gene then served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea for 13 months. He had worked at Milliron Industries, retiring after 26 years of service.
Gene was a member of the Jr. Order and was also a mounted sheriff at Mid-Ohio Raceway. He enjoyed fishing, working on small engines and cooking.
He is survived by his wife Rebecca (Coy) Love, whom he married May 23, 1987; his children, Angie (Dave) Moyer of Ontario, Brian (Terra) Love of Tucson, AZ, Amanda (Jim) Hike of Ontario, Amber (Matt) Pugh of Ontario and Diana Verland of Bucyrus; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday August 9, 2016 at the Barkdull Funeral Home & Crematory. Following the memorial service military honors will be provided by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday one hour prior to the service. Memorial expressions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Hospice of North Central Ohio or to the Richland County Humane Society.
