MANSFIELD – There is something for everyone at the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District’s (Richland SWCD) Watershed exhibit at this year’s Richland County Fair, Aug. 6 to 13.

See how rainfall impacts soil and water health by watching live demonstrations of “The Rainfall Simulator.” Learn how a tree records events. Check out the “fish pond” located behind the Nature Park.

Guess what fish is stocked in the pond and enter the fish contest for a chance to win a fantastic fishing-themed prize donated by Meijer. The contest runs until noon on Aug. 12. Contest rules are available at the Richland SWCD booth.

The watershed exhibit is located in the Nature Park at the Richland County Fairgrounds. Learn what a watershed is and why it is important. Stop by the exhibit and visit with Richland SWCD and USDA-NRCS personnel and volunteers Monday through Friday, Aug. 8 to 12 from 3 to 7 p.m.

Special thanks to Meijer for their donation of the Fish Contest prize. In addition, thank you to the Milliron Family, Mr. Terry Scherer, and John L. Garber Materials Co. for their assistance in creating the Rainfall Simulator. Richland SWCD also thanks Alta Florist and Greenhouse for donating the plants for the fish pond.

Natural resource and conservation programs will take place on the Nature Park stage Monday through Friday, with musical performances Sunday through Saturday night at 7 p.m.

The Nature Park continues to be restored under the guidance of Bill and Tonya Flanegan and Howard Harriman with assistance from Richland County Master Gardeners. While at the Nature Park, stroll through the native gardens or relax on a bench under a shady tree. The Nature Park is an oasis of natural beauty.
