Richard T. Roberts, 94, of Bellville, went home to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, July 23, 2016 from Country Meadows Care Center in Bellville.
He was born Aug. 30, 1921, in Mount Vernon to parents Stewart Emer & Ida Blanche (Beach) Roberts. He was graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1939 and married Esther Sowash on Oct. 3, 1942.
He had four brothers and a sister all of whom preceded him in death. Dick is survived by two daughters Shirley (Tom) Davidson of Mansfield and Sheila (Dan) Van Loo of Bellville. The family also includes five grandchildren, Joy (Cy) Smith of Mansfield, Shellie (Jeff) Arbogast of Troy, Julie (Dave) Mast of Lewis Center, Scott (Chrystie) Van Loo of Ashland, and Jenn (David) Waldron of Johnstown and 13 great-grandchildren.
Richard “Dick” accepted Christ as his Savior when he was 37 years old. He was a charter member of the Clear Fork Alliance Church where he served on the building committee, taught Sunday School, and served as an elder. His favorite Bible verse was Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added onto you.”
Dick worked at Westinghouse for 17 years before he started his own business (Dick Roberts Excavating & Topsoil) in 1959. He worked at this business for 25 years before retiring in 1984.
Dick loved to fish and he and Esther vacationed in Canada every year and several months in Florida. He was an avid Lexington basketball fan, and Dick loved to cheer on the Cleveland Indians.
Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2016 in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service celebrating his life will begin at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Michael V. Stine will officiate and burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
In Dick’s memory, contributions to Clear Fork Alliance Church or Mansfield Christian School may be made through the funeral home.
