ASHLAND – Ashland University’s Coburn Gallery has announced the award winners for the Ohio New Photography Juried Exhibition that will run through July 31 in the University’s Coburn Gallery.
This exhibition offered $750 in awards to artists, including youth category awards for young photographers 17 years and under. The awards were announced at the opening reception of the exhibition held June 26.
Honey Lazar, a Cleveland photographer, served as the outside juror for the exhibition and accepted 41 entries of the 101 art entries submitted for the Coburn exhibition.
Lazar studied at the Cleveland Institute of Art and is a lifelong workshop student. Selections of her work are in permanent collections at the Progressive Corporation, University Hospitals and Southwest General Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Her photographs have exhibited internationally, most recently in Malaga, Spain.
Lazar works on long-term projects for exhibition and publication. She photographs to immortalize loved ones, landscapes and objects of desire, and has recently published “Loving Aunt Ruth: Recipes for a Life Well-Lived.” She says she loves everything about photography especially the people she meets.
The Adult Award winners were Joe Applebaum of Shaker Heights, Ohio, who was awarded Best in Show and the $250 prize for his digital photograph titled “Suprasternal.” Honorable mention awards of $100 were awarded to Maria Gladman of Cardington, Ohio, for her photograph titled “Swan Song” and Christine Walsh-Newton of Dover, Ohio, for her photograph titled “Completeness.”
Youth award winners include Maria Groom of Canton, Ohio, who was awarded Best in Show and the $100 prize for her digital photograph “The Beauty of War.”
Honorable mention awards of $50 were awarded to Emily Brustoski of Ashland, Ohio, for her photograph titled “Iggy”; Victoria Adams of Bucyrus, Ohio, for her photograph titled “The Ashes Rise”; Maya McDonald of Ashland, Ohio, for her photograph titled “Untitled”; and Colin Mayr of Dublin, Ohio, for his photography titled “Friday Times.”
The Ashland Photography Club generously donated funds to help to support youth awards.
