MANSFIELD — The murder trial for Christen J. Ramirez, 35, of Mansfield and Marcellus T. Luckie, 41, of Columbus has been backlogged until August, according to the Richland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Assistant Prosecutor Cliff Murphy said the continuance was issued in the wake of a suppression hearing last Thursday. Bob Whitney, Luckie’s defense attorney, is being hospitalized, he said.

Murphy was unsure as to a specific date for the continued trial.

The motion to suppress evidence obtained by the Mansfield Police Department was filed by Bernie Davis, Ramirez’s defense attorney. After a three-hour hearing with MPD detectives Robert Skropits, Rich Miller and Todd Vanausdle, Judge Brent Robinson denied the request.

The duo are being tried together after being charged for in connection with the murder of Myron Webb, 38, of Mansfield.

Mansfield Police found Webb bleeding from a stabbing incident at 222 E. Second St., after responding to a burglary or robbery. He was transported to OhioHealth MedCentral, where he subsequently died.

Both Ramirez and Luckie have extensive criminal backgrounds.

Ramirez

In February 1999, he was charged with a fifth-degree felony — abuse of schedule three and four drugs. He then spent an additional two years in prison for an attempted escape in the same year.

He served 12 months prison time in 2005 for an assault conviction. He then served nine years after being found guilty on one count of rape, one count of kidnapping, one count of aggravated burglary and two counts of violating a protection order.

Luckie

He served time in the Richland County jail for having weapons under disability.

He was sentenced to six years in prison in 2006 for a case out of Marion County related to aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, felonious assault and having weapons under disability.

The duo could face life in prison and up to a $25,000 fine if found guilty.
