MANSFIELD — A severely injured 2-year-old child has triggered an investigation by the Richland County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff Steve Sheldon announced Wednesday afternoon the Major Crimes Unit is conducting a probe into the circumstances surrounding injuries suffered by 2-year-old Marlie Milner. The toddler was taken to OhioHealth by a family member on Tuesday afternoon.

“Doctors determined she had a subdural brain bleed and arranged for her to be life-flighted to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus,” Sheldon noted in a press release. “Doctors performed emergency surgery on the child.

“The case is being investigated by detectives.”

Detectives would like to identify anyone who had contact with the child in the past 72 hours as part of their investigation. If anyone has any information regarding this case, they are urged call the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit at 419-774- 5610 or dispatch at 419-524-2412.

Prosecutor Bambi Couch Page was made aware of the incident soon after it was reported and the Major Crimes Unit has kept her updated throughout its investigation, Sheldon said.
