Robert Henry

Robert J. Henry, 95, of Ontario, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Jan. 17, 2016. Robert was born on Nov. 12, 1920 to the late Ora A. Henry and Mary E. (Wilson) Henry.

Robert was a quiet family man and very generous; willing to do anything for anyone. He was born and raised in Lucas, Ohio where he graduated high school in 1939. He retired from Westinghouse after 38 years of service.

Robert proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Army, with the 8th Air Force, stationed in India during WWII. He also actively belonged to the Lions Club in Ontario, the Venus Lodge #152, and Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. Robert served as a volunteer firefighter for Springfield Township, and he also served as an Auxiliary Officer with the Ontario Police Department and as an Auxiliary Sheriff for Richland County. 

Robert was the Mayor of Ontario from December of 1986 to December of 1987. 

He enjoyed tinkering, being a repairman, and offering his community his service. He also enjoyed traveling in his Airstream RV, and was along with his wife, a member of Richland Roamers, and the Mohican Valley Airstream Club. Robert traveled for 45 years, visiting every state except Hawaii and all the provinces of Canada. He and his wife wintered in Florida for 30 years. Robert was a member of Berean Baptist Church. 

Robert is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marian (Gilbert) Henry; his daughter, Rebecca Kinsey of Ontario; his son, Jim (Jamie) Henry; his sister, Mary Ellen Anderson; and his brother, Wayne (Carol) Henry all of Mansfield; his three grandchildren, Justin Henry, and Jordyn Henry, both of Ontario, and Rachel (Michael) Balduzzi; and one great-grandchild, Leo Balduzzi all of Colorado. 

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Roy W. Henry; and his sister, Corabelle Motson

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario, Ohio, where an Ontario Lion’s Club Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service officiated by Pastor James Berry, will be held on Friday, Jan. 22, 2016 at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Military honors presented by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will follow the service. Burial will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park.
