Wilda W. “Billie” Manthey, 87, of Westerville and formerly of Galion, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016 at Brookdale, in Westerville, after declining health.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on April 30, 1928, she was the daughter of Emil and Audrey (Brown) Weiblen. She was married to longtime Galion physician, Dr. William C. Manthey, for 60 years. They were married Aug. 25, 1948 and he preceded her in death Sept. 11, 2008.

Billie was a dedicated and active member of First Presbyterian Church in Galion for over 50 years where she served as an Elder, a Deacon, taught Sunday School, served on Church Session, was Chairman of the Building Fund Campaign and was a key member of the church building committee when the new sanctuary was built in 1992.

She was a former board member of the Galion Children’s Home, a former PTA chair at Galion Schools, enjoyed spending time with her family, playing bridge and piano, gardening, painting, stitchery and sewing.

Surviving are four children, Gail and Mark Frendt, of Westerville, Jane and Gary Riddle, of Columbus, Lynne Sutton, of Worthington and Alan Manthey, of Morristown, Tennessee; 11 grandchildren, Kelly (Frendt) Wagaman, Lindsay (Frendt) Roth, Meredith (Frendt) Doellman, Elizabeth (Riddle) Ferguson, Kyle Riddle, Allison (Riddle) Keegan, Colleen (Riddle) Remboldt, Christine (Nigh) Bally, Andrew Sutton, Kevin Sutton and Kelsey (Sutton) Dickson; 17 great-grandchildren and a brother, Peter Weiblen, of Tucson, Arizona.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Diane Manthey and a sister Marilyn Weiblen.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2016 at Richardson-Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Home, 218 S. Market St., Galion, Ohio, 44833. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 240 S. Market St., Galion, Ohio, 44833 with Rev. Faith Proietti officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Galion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program in care of the funeral home.
