Lilian Urschitz went to be with the Lord Sunday morning, Jan. 10, 2016 from Crystal Care Center of Mansfield. She was almost 91.

Born Lilian V. Glaesser, Feb. 23, 1925 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Martin and Magdalena (Wilging) Glaesser. Lilian’s parents immigrated to Mansfield from Crvenka, Yugoslavia in 1921 and then returned in 1925, when she was three months old; her grandfather had passed away and they had to return to run the family business. She was a kindergarten teacher before World War II and survived a Russian concentration camp (between Yugoslavia and Hungary); Lilian returned to America in 1947.

She married Erwin A. Urschitz on Aug. 24, 1942, and they shared 38 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away in 1980. They are now together again.

Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She spent many afternoons watching them play sports. Lilian was a wonderful homemaker to her husband and eight children and loved to cook. She made delicious Christmas cookies and also sewed for her family. In later years she painted and made dolls for her grandchildren. She was also an avid gardener.

Lilian was a faithful member of the former Clearfork Valley Wesleyan Church in Butler.

She is survived by sons: Walter and Bette Urschitz, of Mansfield, Tony and Stacey Urschitz, of Grand Junction, Colorado, and the Rev. Erwin and Wendy Urschitz, of North Canton; daughters: Renate and Dennis Gladden, of Mansfield, Erika and Gerald Bird, of Cumming, Georgia, Lilian and Robert Bigelow, of Rushylvania, Margaret and Steven Wade, of Bellville, and Magda Rhinehart, of Canton; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Herbert Burgauer, of Ontario, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Helen Volk and Matilda Burgauer, a brother Martin Glaesser, a son-in-law David Rhinehart, three grandchildren, and a great-granddaughter.

The Urschitz family wishes to thank Crystal Care Center, especially the aids, nurses, and dietary department, for the wonderful care Mom received during her stay there.

Her family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan, 14, 2016 at North Bend Church of the Brethren (1787 Snyder Rd. in Butler) where a funeral service honoring her life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Friends are welcome to call the hour prior. Pastor Don Smith will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory are encouraged to benefit Fritz Urschitz’s ministries supporting various overseas missionaries (please make checks payable to Bette Urschitz). They may be made at the services or mailed to the funeral home: PO Box 3085, Mansfield Ohio, 44904.
