MANSFIELD: Nancy Smith peacefully passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 in her Mansfield home surrounded by her family. She was 84.
She was born March 22, 1931 to parents Earl Edward & Mary Elizabeth (Dooling) Young in Canton. Nancy was graduated from Canton McKinley High School with the class of 1949.
On September 18, 1952, she married Stuart Curtis Smith and they shared 47 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away in 1999. They are now together again.
Nancy was a wonderful homemaker who made excellent desserts. She also enjoyed needlepoint and word puzzles. Everyone liked Nancy, and she always had a kind word to say. She was an animal lover and kept all kinds of pets: cats, dogs, finches, and for a time tiny goats when she was a member of the Pygmy Goat Association.
She was close to her sister-in-law Barb Britton, and together they traveled all across the country in a convertible. Nancy was a fan of the OSU Buckeyes, but above all she was a fan of her grandchildren. She never missed an event for 4H, FFA, school, sports, or Boy Scouts if it involved her grandkids; she loved them to pieces.
Nancy was a faithful member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a daughter Elizabeth “Liz” & Don Bisel of Mansfield; a son Jim Smith of Mansfield; four grandchildren Patrick Bisel, Cherokee Smith, Peter Bisel, and Amber Enzor (fiancé Josh); a great-grandchild Tailor Smith; a brother Frank & Linda Young; a sister-in-law Barbara Britton; a brother-in-law Tom Kidd; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Charlene Kidd, and a brother-in-law Mel Britton.
Her family will receive friends 10-11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 9, 2016 in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home (81 Mill Road) where a funeral service honoring her life will begin at 11:30 a.m. Pastor Jim Randes and Pastor Jack Sharp will officiate the funeral and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
For contributions in her memory, make checks payable to the Lexington Presbyterian Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and bring or send to the funeral home: P.O. Box 3085, Mansfield, Ohio 44904.
