MANSFIELD — The Music Academy of Karate and Empowerment recently had its June belt promotion, recognizing students for hard work, dedication and personal growth on and off the dojo floor.
Students earning new ranks include:
- Yellow belt: Henry Miller, Miles Clark, and Christopher Cross
- Orange belt: Sawyer Iseman and Lincoln Iseman
- Blue belt: Abiona Huffman and Andy Ditlerson
- Purple belt: Zachary Ballengee
Belt promotions at the academy represent more than mastering physical techniques. Students are evaluated on attendance, effort, attitude, character development, and their ability to demonstrate the academy’s core values of perseverance, integrity, indomitable spirit, courtesy, and self-control.
“This group of students has shown tremendous growth,” Sensei Reneta Music said. “Their discipline, focus, and respect have improved significantly over the past several months. They are learning that success in karate comes from consistent effort, listening, and treating others with kindness and respect.”

The academy also selected Aaleyah Sylvester as the June Student of the Month. Sylvester was selected for consistently demonstrating integrity by helping fellow students without being asked and showing exceptional self-control during classes and sparring. Her willingness to support others while maintaining a positive attitude has made her a role model within the dojo.
The next promotion will take place during the academy’s annual Karate Summer Camp from 1 to 5 p.m. July 25 at the Music Academy of Karate and Empowerment, 3814 Bowman St. Road in Shelby.
Community members are encouraged to attend the promotion ceremony and support the academy’s mission by participating in a special auction featuring donations from local businesses and community supporters. Proceeds from the auction help the academy continue providing character-development programs and karate training for area youth.
The Music Academy of Karate and Empowerment focuses on developing strong bodies, minds, and character to help students become leaders in their families, schools, and communities.
