Donald J. “Jim” Henry, 79, of Shelby died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016 at his home.

Born Aug. 7, 1936 in Shelby to Clyde L. and Helen F. (Heiland) Henry, he was a life-long resident. A 1954 graduate of Shelby High School, he had been employed as the district manager with Remington Steel in Fredericktown, retiring in 1999. He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.

Jim will be remembered for his quick wit and unique humor, but most of all as a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Survivors include his wife, Janice (Knapp) Henry, whom he wed Dec. 7, 1957; four daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Jeff Shuler, of Shelby; Dawn and Rod Hopton, of Ashland; Annie Shepherd, of Shiloh; Faye and Dave Metzger, of Shelby; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Stephanie Henry, of Savannah; nine grandchildren, Nichole (Rudy) Studd, Ryan (Michelle) Witchey and Zachary Witchey, Connor and Jeanna Hopton, Sarah and John Metzger, and Alissa and Tim Henry; six step grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one step brother, Harold Henry, of Shelby; one niece Sherry Kidwell; other relatives and his feline family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde L. Henry and Helen F. Fries; step-father, Clarence T. Fries, one sister, Merlene “Peep” Evans and two sons-in-law, David Witchey and Ronnie Shepherd; nephew Steve Kidwell and brother-in-law, Joe Knapp.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend James McDonald, his pastor, will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorial expressions may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Ronnie Shepherd FFA Scholarship Fund.
