MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mansfield Police have arrested a suspect in Tuesday’s bank robbery at the FirstMerit Bank at 100 Park Avenue West.

According to a press release from the Mansfield Police Department and the FBI, 36-year-old Chad Edward Champ, last known address 51 Granite St., was arrested Wednesday afternoon at the McDonald’s on Trimble Road. Champ was charged with robbery, a third degree felony.

On Tuesday, police said that a male had entered the bank shortly after 9 a.m., demanded money from a teller, received an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.

Authorities said the arrest was made possible through tips received from the public, resulting in leads that led to Champ’s whereabouts.

Major Crimes Detectives are continuing to investigate the robbery; however, no other suspects are wanted at this time. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Det. Rich Miller at 419-755-9758.
