COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is joining motor carrier officers of the Michigan State Police and the Indiana State Police in a week-long effort focused on reducing commercial vehicle crashes.
OSHP will focus on the interstates and highways that border Michigan and Indiana.
During this multi-state initiative, officers will focus on violations by commercial vehicle drivers that are proven to contribute to crashes, including speed, following too closely, improper passing, distracted driving and improper lane use. The initiative began Monday, Dec.7 and runs through Saturday, Dec. 12.
About 161 people die each year in commercial-vehicle-involved crashes across Ohio, according to data from the last five years.
“OSHP is committed to educating the public and enforcing laws in order to reduce crashes of commercial vehicles and the motorists traveling around them,” said Captain Mike Crispen, commander of Licensing and Commercial Standards with OSHP.
OSHP will conduct several other commercial vehicle enforcements with the neighboring states of Indiana and Michigan over the next year with the common goals of traffic safety and commercial vehicle crash reduction.
