MANSFIELD, Ohio (UPDATED) – The suspect of an armed robbery at the FirstMerit Bank on Park Avenue West is the focus of a Mansfield police manhunt this morning.
Lt. Rob Skropits, of the Mansfield Police Department, said authorities received a call shortly after 9 a.m. on Tuesday that a male had entered the bank, demanded money from a teller, received an undisclosed amount of cash and fled on foot.
“The suspect stated he had a weapon, but he did not brandish the weapon,” said Skropits.
The suspect is described as a white male in his mid 30s wearing blue jeans and a gray sweatshirt with a gray hat.
Skropits said no employees were hurt. Just the teller who interacted with the suspect was aware of what was happening. Only after the suspect fled were other employees aware of what happened.
Skropits said the bank will be closed for the remainder of the day on Tuesday. In the meantime, police are attempting to locate the suspect.
“We’re still trying to run that down, it’s early yet but hopefully here in the next couple hours we’ll have something,” Skropits said.
The Mansfield Division of Police Major Crimes Unit currently is following up on leads, according to a Tuesday press release from the department. MPD detectives and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are asking for any information regarding the bank robbery.
People with any information about the case can contact Detective Rich Miller at 419-755-9758 or the FBI at 419-525-2200.
