MANSFIELD, Ohio – Former Mansfield journalist Martin D. Yant and local author and historian Joe James will be appearing at Main Street Books on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 1-3 p.m.
Yant is the author of “Rotten to the Core” and “Rotten to the Core 2,” a greatly expanded and updated version of the first book. The book was originally written when Yant served as editor of the Mansfield News Journal in the late 1970s. In it he recounts his battle against corruption, deceit, brutality, and cronyism. The book remains a controversial one, and also a bestseller in local markets.
Yant now works at Martin D. Yant Investigations. This is a full-service licensed private investigative agency with a passion for truth and justice that digs rather than dusts. Yant has conducted high-profile pre-trial and post-conviction investigations across the country. His investigations have helped free several wrongly convicted inmates. Among them were two men originally sentenced to death who spent 26 years in prison and a couple incarcerated for 12 years on false child-abuse charges. Yant has also conducted many civil investigations, including a fatal jail beating that resulted in one of the largest civil-rights settlements in Ohio history.
James has authored two books: “The Ohio State Reformatory: an Overview” and “Louis Bromfield and His Malabar Farm.” Both will be available for purchase at the bookstore. James is a Mansfield native.
