MANSFIELD, Ohio — Eco-groups, labor voices and a local government official will discuss the US EPA’s proposed standard to cut methane and air pollution from new and modified sources in the oil and gas industry on Monday, Nov. 30.
Groups will highlight tens of thousands of supportive comments from Ohio residents. This proposal would require sources to find and repair leaks, capture natural gas releases from hydraulically fractured oil and gas wells and limit emissions from pumps and compressor stations.
The new standard will protect public health by reducing methane pollution and also volatile organic compounds which can cause headaches, dizziness, fatigue, and respiratory system impacts.
Speakers include Mansfield City Councilman Don Bryant; Laura Burns, Mom’s Clean Air Force; Lee Geisse, BlueGreen Alliance; and Melanie Houston, Ohio Environmental Council.
They will share comments that have been collected and discuss their support for the EPA’s new methane standard for the oil and gas industry.
The talk will be held Monday at the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library (Main Branch), 43 West Third Street Mansfield at 11 a.m.
