MANSFIELD, Ohio – Live music and lots of food will highlight the annual celebration of the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District on Nov. 12.
The event is open to the public and will be held at the Richland County Longview Center, 1495 W. Longview Ave. in Mansfield.
A public election to select two new board supervisors will also take place. Each Board Supervisor serves a three-year term and this year there are two open positions and three candidates.
Board Supervisor candidates are Barbara Zaugg Joudrey, Vincent (Skip) Malaska and Rob Scherer. For voting and absentee ballot instructions, please contact Richland SWCD.
From 5 to 6:10 p.m. guests can enjoy light appetizers, music and catching up with old friends during Meet, Greet and Munch and the Board Supervisor Election.
Krista Solars, a native of Jeromesville, has been playing classical violin since the age of four, and old-time fiddle music since the age of six. Krista and Peter Douglas released their first recording, “Duo Verano” in August 2015. Krista also plays with the Fossil Creek Band – a bluegrass group based out of Toledo.
At 6:10 p.m. a buffet dinner catered by Der Dutchman and evening program will begin. The dinner menu includes roasted chicken, roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, creamed corn, garden salad, rolls and butter and assorted pies.
This year’s guest speaker is Ken Ruprecht, a farmer for over 60 years. Ken and his wife, Marilyn, milk about 130 cows and raise hay, corn and soybeans on their 320-acre farm in Knox County.
Ruprecht knows the care and dedication it takes to keep agriculture not only vibrant but sustainable. He has experienced tremendous changes in farming and weaves these changes into his life’s story, which includes the role of family, technology, community and a changing society into his presentation, “Cows, Kids, Corn and Cicero.”
Richland SWCD will share updates, present the Conservationist of the Year award, recognize volunteers and present the Volunteer of the Year award. Door prizes will be randomly drawn throughout the program. The evening will conclude with the announcement of the Board Supervisor election results.
Reservations should be made by Nov. 5. Cost is $15 for adults and $13 for children 12-and-under.
