MANSFIELD, Ohio — Guests attending the Mansfield Symphony’s Oct. 31 concert, “Side by Side” will be seeing double – double the players, that is, on stage.
The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra will collaborate with the Mansfield Symphony to perform a concert featuring music by Saint-Saëns, Beethoven, Balmages, Bartok, Brahms, and John Williams. Guest pianist Hanchien Lee will be featured on the concert, performing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor.”
Maestro Thomas Hong comments, “We are excited to present an exciting, dramatic concert with a fun Halloween twist! This concert is not your ‘traditional’ symphony program, even though it showcases several of the world’s greatest composers. We’re mixing things up quite a bit with the younger family members in mind – we’d love for our guests to come in costume!”
Since her debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age 16, pianist Hanchien Lee has performed throughout the US, in Europe and across Asia. Described by the legendary pianist Claude Frank as a performer with “Impeccable technique, sincere musicality, with presence and assuredness beyond her years” and the Allentown Morning Review “Lee possesses striking drama and passion… brilliant clarity and produces a remarkable sonority from the piano.”
The Mansfield Symphony Youth Orchestra (MSYO) is an elite youth symphony composed of North Central Ohio’s finest high school musicians from a 12-county region. The MSYO is the only youth orchestra within a 65-mile radius of Mansfield, and represents approximately 90 members each season who perform concerts both onstage at the Renaissance and in the community.
