MANSFIELD, Ohio — Eastbound traffic on State Route 30 became clogged Wednesday when a truck’s trailer crashed into the truck near the Trimble Road exit.
Mansfield Police Department responded to the scene at approximately 1:45 p.m.
According to Officer Matt Davis, Kevin M. Studer, 63, drove off the road because he realized he would not stop in time to avoid the vehicles in front of him.
“He was traveling about 50 miles an hour, cars started to stack up so he headed for the ditch,” explained Davis. “The weight of the trailer shoved it up out of the hitch. So his truck locked up, but the trailer itself didn’t lock up. The weight shoved the back end of the truck around.”
There were no injuries and neither alcohol nor drugs are believed to be involved in the crash. The only vehicle involved was the truck carrying the trailer, which also carried a truck.
Witness Ronnie Brock was shaken up by the incident.
“I was two cars behind and as soon as I seen what happened I knew he was in trouble,” Brock noted.
Brock said he stopped his car intent on helping Studer out of the smashed truck.
“They were just getting him out when I got to him,” Brock said. “So I told him to lean up on something because he looked pretty shaken.”
