MANSFIELD, Ohio — Richland Early American Center for History (REACH) members and Mansfield Blockhouse fans invite the public to an Autumn Gathering of Richland History on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mansfield blockhouse.
The blockhouse is located at 100 Brinkerhoff Avenue in Mansfield’s South Park, and the house will be re-assembled near the blockhouse as part of REACH’s planned complex for a local history experience.
The Mifflin log house recently disassembled by the members of Richland Early American Center for History (REACH) rests in pieces at a local storage facility, thanks to help from Purdy Construction Company.
Saturday’s family-friendly event includes hot cider and apple fritters for snacking, piper Brad Harp performing on bagpipes, Ann Hamilton demonstrating spinning, and a demonstration of how early settlers made their own ink, among other interesting historical displays.
Members of the demolition team will be on hand to answer questions – which will undoubtedly arise after visitors view a slide show of the demolition, examine an actual piece of the nearly 200 year old structure, and see some of the tools pioneers used in construction.
