BELLVILLE, Ohio — The Clear Fork Music Boosters Auction is a popular event at the Bellville Street Fair. It sounds odd to think of a “cake” auction as a source of entertainment, but this one is a crowd-pleaser. The appeal could be the auctioneering; it could be support for the band; it could be the high bidder mystery.

Every year a person or group pays an exorbitant price for cookies, a cake, or a pie. A bidding war generally precedes the purchase, providing entertainment and excitement for the crowd.

Band members and their families donate baked goods for the cause. Submissions are often music- or football-themed.

The event is a fundraiser that benefits the music department, and most often, the band. The auction will be held Saturday at the Bellville bandstand at 4 p.m. and includes pies, cakes, cookies, and candy.

“We have a wonderful problem to solve,” Clear Fork Band Director Jason Brasure said. “We have six talented tuba, or sousaphone, players but we only have two tubas. We need to raise money to buy some more tubas and they’re about $5,000 each.”

Last year’s auction funds were applied to new tenor saxaphones and a new sound system the band, particularly the jazz band, could take on the road.

Whatman Realtors & Auctioneers will conduct the bidding Saturday and musical entertainment will be provided by Clear Fork band members.
