MANSFIELD, Ohio – The Richland County Safe Communities Coalition will offer a variety of information and activities on Tuesday, Aug. 11, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Richland County Fair.
Safe Communities will be located in the large tent by the Big Red Barn at the east gate entrance. Coalition members will have booths with information and handouts on traffic safety and personal health. Agencies represented will include CACY, OSU-Extension, OhioHealth MedCentral Health Systems, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Richland County Sheriff’s Office, RichlandMoves! and Richland Public Health.
In addition to information, the tent will feature a prize spin wheel for traffic safety giveaways including bumper magnets and yard signs. The popular “Drunk Corn Hole” game will return as well. Participates will learn the dangers of impaired driving while wearing “Fatal Vision” goggles as they attempt to do a corn hole toss.
OSU-Extension will have seat belt relays and other activities with a traffic safety theme using teen leaders from its 4-H CARTEENS program. 4-H CARTEENS is a traffic safety program with the goal of reducing the number of repeat juvenile traffic offenses, decreasing the number of teen traffic offenses, and increasing teen awareness of traffic/vehicular safety.
CACY (Community Action for Capable Youth) will have a display and information on medication safety and on its goal to prevent and reduce the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs while moving Richland County toward a drug free community.
OhioHealth MedCentral Hospital will have a display to talk about its Level 2 Trauma Center that sees many traffic accidents every month. In a typical year, the Mansfield hospital treats more than 52,000 patients in its Level II Emergency Department.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office will have vehicles at the tent so people can view the inside of the cruisers and talk to law enforcement officers.
Richland Moves!, Richland County’s Voice for Better Bicycling, Walking, and Bus Service in our local communities, will have maps showing the future Mansfield Bicycle Loop as well as bicycle safety tips. Richland Moves! promotes alternative forms of transportation, with a focus on safe bicycling on our streets. For more on Richland Moves!, contact Nelson Shogren, 419-589-8020.
Richland Public Health will have information on child passenger safety and child car seats.
